Preserving the Kimberley Experience

Kimberley Coastal Camp occupies a privileged position on one of Australia's most remote and spectacular coastlines.

The wilderness, wildlife and sense of isolation that define the Kimberley are what make this place so extraordinary. Preserving these qualities is fundamental to everything we do.

Since welcoming our first guests in 1994, we have remained committed to operating thoughtfully within this remarkable environment. Our small-scale, low-impact approach allows guests to experience the Kimberley in comfort while respecting the natural and cultural values that make the region unique.

Kimberley Coastal Camp maintains Sustainable Tourism Accreditation through Tourism Council WA and has completed the Western Australian Tourism Emissions Reduction Program. We are committed to continually measuring and reducing the environmental impact of our operations through practical, achievable improvements.

Our Estimated Operational Emissions

As part of the Western Australian Tourism Emissions Reduction Program, Kimberley Coastal Camp has completed an assessment of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations.

Estimated Operational Greenhouse Gas Emissions

28.8 tonnes CO₂-e

Reporting Period: 12 months ending June 2026

This estimate includes emissions associated with our operational activities and provides a benchmark from which we can measure future improvements. Measuring our emissions helps us understand where our greatest impacts occur and identify practical opportunities to reduce them over time.

A Considered Approach

Hosting a maximum of just 16 guests at any one time allows us to deliver highly personalised experiences while maintaining a light operational footprint.

Significant investment has been made in renewable energy infrastructure, including our 14.5kW solar power system supported by battery storage, which provides the primary source of energy for camp operations.

Operating in one of Australia's most remote wilderness destinations requires careful planning and long-term environmental stewardship. Across every aspect of our operation we seek to minimise our environmental impact while maintaining the comfort, safety and personalised experiences our guests expect.

Our operational practices include:

  • Renewable energy generation supported by battery storage.

  • Responsible rainwater collection and water conservation.

  • Waste separation, recycling and composting.

  • Reduced reliance on single-use plastics.

  • Efficient freight, fuel and supply logistics.

  • Support for local suppliers, businesses and employment.

  • Low-impact tourism practices throughout our operations.

Environmental & Cultural Stewardship

Kimberley Coastal Camp operates on the traditional Country of the Wunambal Gaambera people.

We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians and recognise their enduring connection to land, sea and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Our business operates within one of Australia's most pristine environments and we are committed to protecting and conserving the natural values of the Kimberley at all times.

Through careful management of our operations, ongoing environmental initiatives and support for Traditional Owners and local communities, we aim to ensure this extraordinary region can be enjoyed by future generations.

Our Commitment to Reducing Emissions

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an ongoing process rather than a single project.

Kimberley Coastal Camp is committed to continually reviewing its operations and implementing practical initiatives that reduce emissions wherever possible.

Our current priorities include:

  • Maximising the use of solar power and battery storage.

  • Monitoring operational energy consumption.

  • Improving energy efficiency through equipment upgrades.

  • Conserving water through rainwater harvesting and responsible use.

  • Continuing to reduce waste generation and unnecessary packaging.

  • Supporting local procurement where practical.

  • Consolidating freight to reduce transport emissions.

  • Reviewing operational emissions annually and identifying further opportunities for improvement.

We recognise that operating in a remote location presents unique logistical challenges. Our focus is on making practical, measurable improvements that protect the Kimberley while continuing to provide exceptional wilderness experiences.
